This happens because your computer basically has a list of all the files on it called an index. You could ask it what's in C:\\users and it would look up where that data is physically stored on the drive. Instead of removing a file (writing 0s) it just removes it from the index, so it can be overwritten. But if it isn't overwritten, the data is still there. Same on an iPhone
